Pandya brothers will play their first international T20 match together against England at the Old Trafford on Tuesday.
Krunal and Hardik Pandya will become the third brother duo to wear the India colours together when they turn out at the Old Trafford Tuesday for the first T20 match against England.
Previous brother-pairs who played for India are Mohinder-Surinder Amarnath and Irfan-Yusuf Pathan.
The Pandya brothers have turned out together during the Indian Premier League this year for the Mumbai Indians.
The Pandya pair
Krunal Pandya, though uncapped, has an impressive record in the IPL — In 39 matches, he has scored 793 runs at an average of 28.32. Krunal also has 28 wickets to his name.
His younger brother Hardik made his presence felt in the Indian cricket team with consistent performance. He is adept at bowling, as well as swinging the bat. Hardik has played 7 test matches and 38 ODIs for India. He has taken 39 wickets in ODIs and 7 wickets in Test matches so far. Hardik also scored a century against Sri Lanka at Kandy in 2017.
The Amarnaths
Lala Amarnath, India’s first test centurion was the father of the Amarnath brothers, Surinder and Mohinder.
Surinder, a left-handed batsman started his career with a century against New Zealand at a Test match in Auckland. However, this remained his only century till the end of his short career. Surinder was able to play only 10 Tests and 3 ODIs as a part of his international career. His career was overshadowed by his brother Mohinder who played 69 Test matches and 85 ODIs.
Mohinder scored 11 test centuries and 2 centuries in the ODIs. He was also a part of the Indian team that won the World Cup at Lords in 1983. Mohinder was described as the “finest batsman” by Sunil Gavaskar in his book Idols.
The Pathan brothers
The Pathan brothers proved to be all-rounders for the Indian cricket team. Elder brother Yusuf made his international debut in 2007 against Pakistan. He is a hard-hitting batsman with an impressive strike rate of 100+ in both ODIs (113.60) and T20s (146.58). Yusuf has taken 33 wickets in ODIs till now. He was a part of the Indian squad that won the 2011 World Cup at the Wankhede.
Younger brother Irfan made his debut in the Indian team in 2003. Irfan has played 29 test matches and 120 ODIs in total. He has knocked off 100 wickets in test cricket and even scored a century. Irfan Pathan achieved fame when he made a striking hat-trick by demolishing Pakistan at Karachi in 2006.
Also Surinder played only 2 tests in india in which he scored 62 & 68 respectively.. other so called greats have played maximum matches in india given them plenty of opportunity to score runs . It was unfortunate a batsman of Surinder’s caliber was overlooked due to differences the people had with his father “ The great “ Lala Amarnath who once ruled indian cricket with an iron fist
Surinder wasuch better than Jimmy ( Mohinder ) unfortunately he was a victim of selection politics otherwise , Jimmy , sunny or anyone else was no match to his awesomely aggressive style of batting. He scored a century on debut and a few half centuries for India in 10 Tests , a record that is equal to Rahul Dravid and Virat Kohli as per their first tests
What about AG Kripal Singh and AG Milkha Singh? they played together in 1st Test, England tour of India at Mumbai, Nov 11-16 1961
