New Delhi: Former Australian cricketer David Warner, known for making headlines with his impressive on-field skills and off-field antics, continues to expand his career horizons.

His latest endeavours include a film cameo, and he’s also contemplating a potential foray into politics, with a recent tweet sparking intrigue as he asked fans for their thoughts on a possible parliamentary run.

Taking to ‘X’, Warner wrote, “I think I need to join and become a member of parliament!! Thoughts???”

Warner’s tweet left fans guessing, especially his Indian followers, who wondered if it was possible for the Aussie to run for the Indian parliament. However, Warner later clarified his intentions, responding to another tweet that he aimed to work for the betterment of Australia, his home country.

An Australian fan asked Warner if he would run for office independently. Warner responded by saying “Love the insight, more about what does everyone need and want. Lower income tax, more money in people’s pockets, raise GST. Not sure what the answer is. But we need to protect home first!!! Back Australian products.”

He shared his thoughts on ‘X’, highlighting concerns from an Australian national interest standpoint.

Social media to silver screens

On 15 March, Warner announced on ‘X’ that he would be making a special appearance in the upcoming Telugu film ‘Robinhood’ marking his ‘maiden’ appearance in Indian films.

He shared the film’s poster, revealing his look and the release date. “Indian Cinema, here I come. Excited to be a part of #Robinhood. Thoroughly enjoyed shooting for this one. GRAND RELEASE WORLDWIDE ON MARCH 28th,” Warner posted.

Traditionally, India has been a nation where cricketers, actors, and politicians hold significant influence. Warner, with his cricketing background, upcoming film debut, and potential interest in politics, mirrors the country’s sought-after triumvirate of aspirational high-profile careers.

IPL franchise Delhi Capitals jokingly suggested Warner is obtaining Indian citizenship, sharing a video about him getting an ‘Aadhaar Card’ during the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) IPL season.

The former Australian cricketer raised his social media game by showcasing his love for Telugu culture, particularly through playful reels and videos featuring his family grooving to popular Telugu songs, which resonated with a wide audience, especially during the COVID-19 lockdown.

He captained the Sunrisers Hyderabad, playing for the team for seven seasons, from 2014 to 2021, leading them to their first Indian Premier League (IPL) title in 2016, also a reason for his huge fan base, which now boasts over 10.7 million followers on Instagram.

Warner bid adieu to a prolific international career that spanned over 15 years in 2024. He was a key player in Australia’s International Cricket Council (ICC) Cricket World Cup win in 2015 and continues to play franchise cricket around the world.
