In her book “How Not to Be a Superwoman,” Nilanjana Bhowmick examines the tremendous pressure women have to face to succeed in all spheres of life, including those of mothers, career women, lovers, and friends, as well as the toll this quest takes on their emotional well-being.

The book reveals the honest, genuine tales of varied women who have overcome the crippling cycle of perfectionism and provides enlightening, useful guidance on finding balance and the happiness that comes from accepting oneself.

She challenges and rejects the irrational expectations of society via a feminist lens and promotes a life of fulfillment, self-compassion, and true empowerment.

Nilanjana Bhowmick has been a journalist for more than two decades and has won three international awards for her reports on gender and development. She began her career as a producer for the BBC Asian Network in Birmingham and The World Today, the flagship current affairs programme of the BBC World Service Radio based in London.

The book has garnered praise from Onir, film-maker and author of ‘I Am Onir and I am Gay.’ “How Not to Be a Superwoman is a fascinating read about internalized patriarchy that is extremely accessible and relatable as it navigates through everyday situations. It’s not only important for women, but I feel very strongly that all young adults should read it, especially at an age when they can question what they have internalized and change it.”

Kiran Manral, author of ‘Rising: 30 Women Who Changed India’ applauds the book ‘A definitive guide that will help every woman understand the unspoken burdens placed upon her by patriarchy and how to reclaim herself from them. Interspersing anecdotes with statistics and facts, you’ll find yourself nodding in agreement all through it’
