On this day two years ago, Chandrayaan-3 mission accomplished safe and soft landing on the surface of the Moon, making India the fourth country to do so and the first to land near the Moon’s southern polar region. The landing site was named ‘Shiv Shakti’ point and PM Narendra Modi declared August 23 as “National Space Day”.
India celebrated its first National Space Day in 2024 with the theme “Touching Lives while Touching the Moon: India’s Space Saga”.
The theme for this year is “Leveraging Space Technology and Applications for Viksit Bharat 2047”.
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) aims to send Indian astronauts into Low Earth Orbit in early 2027 with the Gaganyaan mission, and plans to construct India’s own “Bhartiya Antariksh Station” by 2030.
