Kolkata: Trinamool Congress MP Nusrat Jahan was admitted to a private hospital in Kolkata late Sunday, with her family issuing a statement saying she was suffering from breathing difficulty.
According to sources in the Trinamool Congress, Nusrat is now doing well and is likely to be discharged Monday evening.
Nusrat is married to businessman Nikhil Jain, and had posted pictures celebrating his birthday Sunday. The actor-politician has often been in the news for her bold political statements, especially in taking on Muslim fundamentalists every time they’ve tried to censure her for participating in Hindu rituals and festivals.
“Paying heed or reacting to comments made by hardliners of any religion only breeds hatred and violence, and history bears testimony to that,” Nusrat has said.
While she has earned accolades nationally for her stance, Nusrat’s party has hardly made any significant comment supporting or praising her. The 29-year-old had won Basirhat by over 3,50,000 votes, and is one of Trinamool’s nine women MPs in the Lok Sabha.
