New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party will contest the 2024 Lok Sabha election under the leadership of J.P. Nadda whose tenure as party president has been extended till June 2024.
Home Minister Amit Shah announced Tuesday that the national executive had unanimously reappointed Nadda, whose three-year term was to be over on 20 January.
Shah, however, said the party’s membership drive couldn’t take place this year due to Covid. Which is why elections at various party levels couldn’t be conducted, he added. It can be noted that the BJP was defeated in the assembly elections in Himachal Pradesh last year, which is Nadda’s home turf.
Shah said, “During his presidential tenure, more than 120 various elections were fought out of which BJP won 77. BJP’s strike rate has been the highest in Bihar, or in Maharashtra where the NDA formed the government again, and in Bengal, the party covered the distance from 3 assembly seats to 77. In the southern states, including in Tamil Nadu and Telangana, a favourable atmosphere has been created. In Goa, we scored a hat-trick and in Gujarat, a historical mandate was delivered last year.”
“I am confident that under the leadership of Modi Ji and Nadda Ji, the BJP will win with an even bigger majority in 2024,” Shah added.
Shah also said that Nadda strongly led the party during Covid times, keeping in mind the party’s ‘Seva Hi Samarpan‘ principle.
Shah also noted that under Nadda’s leadership, 130,000 party booths were strengthened and many other service activities undertaken.
The national executive meeting was held at Delhi’s NDMC Convention Centre for two days — 16-17 January — to discuss the roadmap for the upcoming elections. Nine assembly elections will be held in 2023, and the Lok Sabha elections in 2024.
On the first day of the meet, the party said it has resolved to win all nine state assembly elections in 2023.
