New Delhi: As the date for the Karnataka assembly elections draws closer, the BJP released its campaign video for the state — a remix of Oscar winning ‘Naatu Naatu’ song from the Telugu film RRR that highlights the achievements of its government in the state. The remixed version replaces the words ‘Naatu Naatu’ with ‘Modi Modi’.
The ruling party released its version of the immensely popular song Tuesday.
The video depicts young women and men performing the popular ‘hook steps’ of Naatu Naatu while highlighting the accomplishments of the BJP-led Karnataka government in the past three years. The lyrics mention the recently-inaugurated Shivamogga airport, the 118-km-long Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway project and four new Metro lines that are to come up in Bengaluru. The lyrics also reference other state-wide initiatives.
Meanwhile, Kannada actor Kiccha Sudeep had on 5 April announced that he will campaign for CM Basavaraj Bommai and other BJP candidates in the upcoming elections on 10 May.
Following the announcement, the Janata Dal (Secular) party in Karnataka wrote to the Election Commission seeking a ban on the display and screening of advertisements featuring Sudeep. The party asserted that this could influence electors in the upcoming polls.
Meanwhile, General Secretary of NSUI, Karnataka, Dhruv Jatti took to Twitter recently to point out the “politically toxic film industry” under BJP. He also said that the team of KGF Chapter 2 movie had filed a case against the Congress for playing a song from the film during the party’s Bharat Jodo Yatra and asked if the RRR team would do the same.
KGF-2 was quick to file a case on Congress for playing their song during Bharat Jodo Yatra. Same week the Bengaluru court ordered to block Congress’s twitter over copyright.
Would the same happen with BJP ever? Most probably not. Would RRR be proud of such an edit? Obviously… https://t.co/b8CSAFRidH
