‘Humko sab chalta hai’ – Social media reacts to Devendra Fadnavis’ return as Maharashtra CM

Social media users have dug up some of Devendra Fadnavis' earlier tweets in which he had vowed to never align with the Nationalist Congress Party.

New Delhi: Hours after BJP’s Devendra Fadnavis was sworn in as the Maharashtra chief minister and Nationalist Congress Party’s (NCP) Ajit Pawar as his deputy Saturday, social media was abuzz with the CM’s earlier tweets in which he had vowed to never align with the NCP.

“BJP will never, never, never have any alliance with NCP. Rumours are motivated. We exposed their corruption in assembly. Others were silent,” Fadnavis had tweeted on 26 September 2014.

Reacting to the latest developments, one social media user commented saying: “BJP: humko sab chalta hai” (BJP: everything is fine by us), while another quipped: “CM and deputy CM bhai, bhai” (CM and deputy CM are brothers).

While campaigning for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Fadnavis had criticised the NCP and Congress leadership saying: “Captain and Vice Captain of NCP both left the ground and Congress leader from Gondia moved to Nagpur to lose deposit against @nitin_gadkari ji! I am sure Bhandara-Gondia seat is set to create history in Vidarbha. #DeshKeLiyeModi.”

The BJP needed NCP’s support to touch the majority mark of 145 to form the government in Maharashtra. Fadnavis who had earlier vowed to reduce the NCP to “a Nano Party” has now formed the government with its help.

In 2013, when the BJP was pitted against the Congress and NCP, Fadnavis had even called many NCP leaders corrupt. “NCP ministers resign for reshuffle… Pawar Saheb please try to change not just faces of ministers but also corrupt intents,” he tweeted on 7 June 2013.
