New Delhi: The Election Commission Monday barred Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu from campaigning for 72 hours for his remarks made to the Muslim community at a rally in Bihar.

Sidhu violated the model code of conduct when he warned the community from dividing their votes. The poll body has barred him from making any public comments or campaigning for three days.

In this election season, Sidhu is the fifth politician to be handed such a ban. The poll panel had previously banned BSP chief Mayawati, Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath, Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan, and Union minister Maneka Gandhi for making inappropriate comments.
