Assembly elections were held across Karnataka on 12 May, but the polling on Jayanagar seat was countermanded on 4 May after the death of a BJP candidate.
Bengaluru:The Congress today won the Jayanagar assembly seat in the city by a margin of more than 2,800 votes, wresting it from the BJP.
According to election officials, Congress’ Sowmya Reddy secured 54,457 votes against her nearest rival from the BJP, B N Prahlad, who managed 51,568 votes.
Assembly elections were held across the state on 12 May, but the polling on Jayanagar seat was countermanded owing to the death of BJP candidate B N Vijayakumar, who was holding the constituency.
The bypoll was held on 11 June. Prahlad, brother of Vijaykumar, and senior Congress leader and former minister Ramalinga Reddy’s daughter Sowmya Reddy were locked in a direct contest.
Ahead of the polling, the Janata Dal (Secular) had on June 5 pulled out its candidate from the contest and extended the party’s support to its ruling coalition partner, the Congress.
This was the first election after the JD(S)-Congress combine came to power in the state in which they put up a united fight against the BJP.
Both Congress and JD(S) had fielded candidates against each other, despite being coalition partners, in the recent election to the Rajarajeshwari Nagar Assembly seat in the city.
Congress’s Munirathna had won the seat, relegating the JD(S) candidate to a distant third behind the BJP. – PTI

Time indeed is a great leveller and teacher !
Now when Congress and Janata Dal(Secular) have joined hands together on May,15 following post Karnataka Assembly Poll results developments, they have to further strengthen their chemistry with the sole aim of delivering the goods by overcoming various obstacles and hurdles !
Both the parties will be face to face with situations where petty and hollow political considerations may attempt to dampen their
“coalition dharma” spirit but these must bear in mind to pursue one -the biggest dharma of Karnataka-India above everything spirit !
So far both the parties- especially Congress the big brother have been oiling their coordination to the maximum possible extent !
Under the inspiring guidance of its President Mr.Rahul Gandhi, Congress has been conducting itself very positively in a broad-minded and farsighted style ! The results are very evidently encouraging and morale boosting !
The victory of Ms.Sowmya Reddy of Congress in Jayanagar Assembly bypoll in Karnataka held on June,12 is the fine example of learning from past mistakes by the coalition partners then instantly going in for course correction !
The opposition parties must take a cue from this Congress-JD(S) coordination spirit and experiment which might serve as a wonderful strategy and yardstick to take on the might of NaMo’s BJP in ensuing Lok Sabha Polls likey to be held in May,2019 !
Sans any doubt, more than anything else BJP now every day wishes and dreams of seeing breaches and bickerings in Congress-JD(S) relationship and ties in Karnataka and opposition parties moving in different directions, not coming on to a unified platform !
Congress,JD(Secular), Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party so far have passed through test in a fine way keeping NaMo’s BJP
constantly on its toes and in panic mode ! Other opposition parties too must adopt the same strategum keeping BJP non-plussed and
scared till May,2019 ! Consistent but at the same time smart approach of the opposition parties can enable the nation ultimately get rid of NaMo’s authoritarian regime !
May,2019 Lok Sabha Polls marathon event now is very much in progress ! Who wins it, only time will unfold ?
