New Delhi: The Election Commission of India on Wednesday issued a show-cause notice to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s son Priyank for using “abusive language” against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
This Monday, the BJP unit in Karnataka filed a complaint with the poll body after Priyank called Modi a “nalayak beta (a useless son)”.
He told a rally in poll-bound Karnataka on 1 May: “When PM Modi had come to Kalaburgi, he said, ‘Aap sab dariye mat, Banjara community ka ek beta Delhi mein baitha hai (Do not be afraid. A son of the Banjara community is sitting in Delhi).’ Aisa nalayak beta baithega toh ghar kaise chalega (How can you run your house with such a useless son?).”
His father later said Priyank did not make that comment and that people were putting words in in his mouth
Earlier, Kharge had called Modi a “poisonous snake”, but later clarified that his comment wasn’t intended to hurt anyone.
In reply to Kharge’s barb, Modi told a rally last Sunday that the people of Karnataka would give the grand old party a “befitting answer” in the upcoming Assembly elections.
The Prime Minister said the people of the country were like Lord Shiva to him and that he didn’t mind being the snake around their necks.
“I prefer being the snake that adorns the necks of the people who I see as god,” he said.
