Modi has reduced his cabinet to a rubber stamp, all decisions taken by PMO: Chidambaram

In an exclusive interview with ThePrint, senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram slammed Modi for his style of governance and said he feared he would change the Constitution if voted back to power.

Senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram said that big decisions like demonetisation, which drastically affected the economy, were taken solely by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and even finance minister Arun Jaitley knew about this just a few hours before.

Speaking to Jyoti Malhotra of ThePrint on the occasion of the launch of his book, ‘Undaunted’, Chidambaram attacked the Rafale fighter jet deal with France, asking why the Modi government had bought only 36 aircraft when the IAF needed 126 and why it was now afraid of a parliamentary inquiry.

He also said he feared that if Modi were to be voted back to power, he would change the secular, democratic Constitution that had held India together for 70-plus years.
