The best cartoons of the day, chosen by editors at ThePrint.
The selected cartoons appeared first in other publications, either in print or online, or on social media, and are credited appropriately.
In the lead cartoon, Mansoor Naqvi on Twitter combines Mother’s Day and the Karnataka assembly elections to show that the democratic process appears to be the real mother of the country in south India right now.
Mika Aziz on Twitter highlights the absurdity of the fact that many candidates contesting the Karnataka assembly elections have criminal charges against their name. The cartoon suggests that the nexus between power and political crime is so deep that it’s unlikely you’ll find even one innocent name on the EVM.
Patrick Chappatte in the New York Times pokes fun at US President Donald Trump’s recent decision to quit the Iran Nuclear Deal.
Sajith Kumar on Twitter also draws on the same theme. It is interesting to note that the depiction of Trump in most cartoons globally is similar – petulant, child-like, and sitting at a vantage point above everyone else. Both cartoons portray his tendency to make or break policies purely for America’s self-interest.
Lastly, Feica feeks in Dawn draws Pakistan as if it were a scene from Alice in Wonderland. The Senate Committee recently asked people to stop smoking hashish inside the Parliament Lodges. In the same committee meeting, the rat infestation in Parliament was also discussed.
