The best Indian cartoons of the day, chosen by editors at ThePrint.

The selected cartoons appeared first in other publications, either in print or online or on social media, and are credited appropriately.

In the lead cartoon, Satish Acharya illustrates the tussle for power between Congress and BJP in the upcoming Karnataka elections. With CM Siddaramaiah considering religious minority status for the Lingayat community, a major vote bank for the BJP in the state, things have started to get more tense.

Cartoonist Irfan shows the IPL, which has recently started, has extravagant sums of money being thrown into it despite the poverty in the country.

At the Commonwealth Games in Australia, India has won five medals in weightlifting. Alok Nirantar suggests that this is probably because of Indians being used to carrying heavy school bags since childhood. Sagar Kumar draws a bleaker scenario – though women of the country may have done us proud by winning medals, the situation for them continues to be bleak with practices like female feoticide still prevalent.

Sandeep Adhwaryu in Times of India draws the tale of the two Khans in Rajasthan. Pehlu Khan, a dairy farmer, who was lynched by a mob of cow vigilantes in Alwar, and Salman Khan who got bail even after killing blackbucks in Jodhpur.
