In today’s featured cartoon, Sajith Kumar takes a dig at the present imbroglio in the Congress over who will be Karnataka’ next chief minister. It says the Congress’s government may be single engine — as opposed to BJP’s much-touted double-engine governance — but unfortunately it has two steering wheels, as in Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar.
Sandeep Adhwaryu also comments on Karnataka’s election results, with a woman voter handing over a book — called ‘The Karnataka Story’ — to party leaders Siddaramaiah and D.K. Shivakumar. She warns it should not be like ‘The Kerala Story’ — a reference to the controversial movie on religious conversion in the neighboring state.
Manjul gives his satirical take on return on investments. While one man says he made 8% in bonds, another says he made 11% in the stock market. The third man, however, says he made Rs 716 on every one rupee he invested in tiger reserves. It is a reference to the Madhya Pradesh’s 716-sq-foot Bandhavgar Tiger Reserve that has recently witnessed a big cat boom.
Satish Acharya’s cartoon is also on the Congress’s inability to quickly decide between Siddaramaiah and D.K. Shivakumar as Karnataka’s next chief minister. It is a dig at Shivakumar’s pre-poll “guarantee card” promise to female voters which would provide them Rs 2,000 every month, 200 units of free power to all houses, free 10 kg of rice to the economically weaker section. But all they now want is a guaranteed chief minister, says Acharya.
Nala Ponnappa also talks about Karnataka’s chief minister logjam, and demands that whoever he is, he should be “environment friendly”.
