In the lead cartoon, Shreyas Navare deals with the loss of legendary physicist Stephen Hawking, who died Wednesday at the age of 76 at his home in England. The cartoon shows that even in a field of extreme rationality, Hawking was extraordinary – a ‘miracle’ in science that has now been lost.
The Kisan Long March continues to remain a dominant theme this week. Sajith Kumar’s cartoon says that even though the Devendra Fadnavis government has agreed to pay heed to farmers demands in six months, it is more likely that they will march back into oblivion, and have to deal with the prospect of a bleak future with no real change.
Mansoor Naqvi in DB Post highlights the hatred that supporters of the current government seem to have for Communism due to the march, so much so that they want even the colour of their blood to be changed to saffron.
The long list of leaders defecting to join the BJP also remains a subject of cartoons. Kirtish Bhatt in BBC News uses the example of Naresh Agrawal to show how leaders of other parties are threatening to join the BJP, even if the smallest of their demands aren’t met.
Finally, Sandeep Adhwaryu’s cartoon for Times of India shows ministers Narayan Rane (ex-INC and Shiv Sena) and Mukul Roy (ex-Trinamool Congress), who both hopped into the BJP and are now whispering to Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and P. Chidambaram respectively, to cross over to their side. The hint seems to be that if they do so, the ‘caged parrot’ that is CBI will be softer on their cases.
