New Delhi: The International Day of Yoga 2024 is just around the corner. To mark this significant day, a large-scale event was organized by the Ministry of Ayush in Surat, Gujarat. This event, known as ‘Yoga Mahotsav,’ was attended by over 7,000 people from all walks of life, the Press Information Bureau (PIB) said in a statement.
The ‘Yoga Mahotsav’ began at 7 am on May 2, 2024, with the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) from 7.00 am.
The event was attended by Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of Ayush.
Others present on the occasion included Prof. Avinash Chandra Pandey, Director of the Inter-University Accelerator Centre, New Delhi and Inter-University Centre for Yogic Sciences, Bengaluru; and Vaidya Dr. Kashinath Samagandi, Director of Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY).
It has been estimated that over 23.5 crore people across the world practiced Yoga in 2023, PIB said, adding that this number is expected to increase significantly in the coming year.
