Kolkata, Jul 3 (PTI) Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla asked the newly-elected MLAs of West Bengal on Friday to make efforts to change the life of the last person in the society while fulfilling the hopes of the common people.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony of an orientation programme for the newly-elected members of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly, Birla also said a developed West Bengal is necessary to build a developed India by 2047.
He said each MLA represents their area as well as the collective aspirations of people.
“Their aim should always be to change the life of the last person while fulfilling the hopes of the common people of Bengal,” Birla said.
He said great visionaries from West Bengal played a crucial role in social reformation and the struggle for freedom, along with spirituality, religion and culture.
“Bengal gave voice to the freedom movement with the proclamation of ‘Vande Mataram’. The MLAs should work tirelessly to enrich the heritage, spiritual consciousness and cultural renaissance of Bengal again. They should make all efforts for making India a developed country, empower the democracy with democratic dialogue,” he said.
The Lok Sabha speaker said there may be agreement and disagreement, but the tradition of democracy and excellent dialogue should remain intact.
He said the newly-elected MLAs should learn from the experiences of old and experienced members, and study old proceedings of the Assembly.
“The newly-elected MLAs should have a desire to learn and understand, a desire for innovation,” he said.
Birla said legislative members keep themselves updated in the times of AI technology and digitalisation. “The newly-elected members should sit in the House for maximum time and listen to the statements of other MLAs,” he said. PTI ACB RC
