Kota(Raj) Aug 17 (PTI) Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Monday said women are forging ahead in all domains and their safety is not solely the duty of the police or the government, but a shared responsibility of the entire society.

He said women are leading in education, science, technology, defence, sports, and administration and urged the creation of a values-driven society where they feel secure, confident, and empowered to contribute to India’s growth. He noted that women will play a central role in realising the vision of a developed India.

Birla, who is the MP from Kota-Bundi, said this while addressing a gathering of women and female students during ‘Suraksha Samvad 2.0’, organised under the ‘Women Safety Pledge Campaign’ (Mahila Suraksha Sankalp Abhiyan) by Kota City Police and the Blue Dot Dialogue organisation.

Birla reiterated his commitment to making Kota a safe and drug-free city. He also released a documentary on the women safety campaign as well as an informative handbook on cyber safety and women’s protection.

Highlighting the need for open communication, Birla stated that continuous interaction between women, students and police forces will raise awareness and facilitate prompt, effective action against crime. He also cautioned women to remain vigilant against rising cyber threats.

Referring to Kota’s stature as a premier educational hub attracting students from across India, the Lok Sabha speaker emphasised that maintaining a safe, welcoming, and family-like atmosphere is a collective duty.

Providing a safe environment and high-quality education to young women coming from different parts of the country remains a matter of pride for the city.

To ensure equal educational opportunities for rural youth, Birla announced an initiative to set up digital libraries in every gram panchayat across the Kota-Bundi constituency. These libraries will provide access to national and international study material, online coaching, and digital resources to help rural students prepare for competitive examinations, he said.

Furthermore, digital literacy programmes such as ‘Dadi-Nani Ki Digital Pathshala (Digital School for Grandmothers) and early digital education in schools are being implemented so that no women is deprived of education or opportunities due to a lack of resources, he said.

Touching upon the spirit of Raksha Bandhan, Birla noted that the festival symbolises a collective pledge toward safety and a cultured society. He called upon women to actively contribute to building a drug-free India.

Rajasthan Director General of Police (DGP) Rajeev Kumar Sharma said that under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, Rajasthan Police is fully committed to women’s safety.

The force aims to foster an atmosphere of trust rather than fear, encouraging women to report any wrongdoing without hesitation, the DGP said. He urged young women to be aware of self-defence techniques, legal rights and cyber safety measures.
