Gurugram, Apr 25 (PTI) Congress national spokesperson Ragini Nayak on Saturday attacked the central government on the issue of women’s reservation and delimitation, demanding that the 33 per cent quota be implemented immediately in the existing 543 Lok Sabha seats.

Addressing a press conference here, she further demanded that women from Dalit, tribal and backward classes must get their due share in the reservation.

Half the country’s population will continue to exercise their constitutional rights, Nayak said referring to women.

Alleging that the government is resorting to technical excuses and political tactics to avoid addressing the issue of women’s reservation, she said women’s power is “not merely soft, but strong and a force that gives life to society”.

The Congress leader further claimed that if the Narendra Modi government had been serious about women, it would have implemented the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam passed in 2023, by now.

She alleged that the government shelved this law for three years and is now making it an issue during election time. “Women do not forget insults and respond when the time comes. I appeal to the prime minister to implement women’s reservations unconditionally in the monsoon session, ensuring equal opportunities for women from all sections,” Nayak said.

Congress Gurugram District President Vardhan Yadav said the issue of women’s reservation is not merely political, but rather related to social justice and equality. He alleged that the central government is using this important issue for electoral gain rather than implementing it.

“Women across Haryana, including Gurugram are rapidly advancing in education, employment and leadership, but they are not receiving equal opportunities at the policy level. Thirty-three per cent women’s reservation should be implemented in the Lok Sabha and assembly without delay,” Yadav added. PTI COR PRK
