New Tehri, Apr 21 (PTI) A 55-year-old woman died and seven others sustained injuries after a car they were travelling in rammed into a stationary truck laden with iron rods in Tehri district on Tuesday morning, police said.

The deceased, Dhuma Devi, was a resident of Haryana’s Faridabad. Police used a gas cutter to retrieve her body as it was trapped inside the mangled remains of the car.

Eight people, including the driver, were travelling from Faridabad to Pauri in Uttarakhand when the car hit the truck from behind on the Rishikesh-Badrinath National Highway in the Kaudiyala area.

The seven other occupants sustained minor injuries and were admitted to a hospital for treatment, the police added.

Upon receiving information, teams from the local police and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) reached the spot and started the rescue operation. PTI COR DPT AKY AKY SHS SHS SHS
