Beed, May 7 (PTI) A 30-year-old woman was electrocuted to death and three others were seriously injured after a high tension power line came in contact with a makeshift metal shed where they were resting at a village in Maharashtra’s Beed district, police said.
The incident occurred at a farm in Katevasti of Shirur Kasar tehsil around 1.30 pm on Wednesday.
While Renuka Kate died in the incident, the injured were identified as Sunita Kate, Priyanka Kate, and Anand Kate. They are currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Shirur Kasar, where their condition is reported to be serious, they said.
The mishap occurred when the victims were engaged in harvesting onions. To get rid of the blistering afternoon heat, the workers had erected a temporary shed with iron supports.
A high-tension overhead power line passing directly above the farm came in contact with the structure, which caused a massive current to flow through the iron angles. Renuka Kate died on the spot after touching one of the poles, while three others, who were in close proximity, also suffered severe shocks.
Following the incident, Renuka’s body was shifted to the Shirur Kasar Primary Health Centre for a post-mortem.
A police official said, “We are looking into how the current discharged into the shed and whether there was any negligence regarding the height of the overhead cables.” PTI COR NP
