Thane, Oct 2 (PTI) Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Sanjay Kelkar on Friday said he will introduce a private member’s bill within two weeks demanding stringent action against fraudulent real estate developers under the Maharashtra Protection of Interest of Depositors (MPID) Act.

Speaking during an interaction with citizens at the ‘Jansevakacha Jan-Samvad’ programme, Kelkar cited the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) project on Babasaheb Ambedkar Road that has been pending for 20 years.

The developer has continuously misled residents with false promises without delivering homes, he alleged.

Citing another stalled project, Trinity Heights, Kelkar urged the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) to initiate criminal proceedings against the builder.

“Cases of developers defrauding residents are rising sharply in Thane. To curb this, I will table a private member’s bill in two weeks to invoke MPID Act provisions against such defaulting developers,” he said. PTI COR BNM

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
