Gurugram: Who is Lakhwinder Singh, the man deported by the US at the request of the Haryana Police?
Among the 50-odd youths who landed in shackles at the Indira Gandhi International Airport late on Saturday, he is one of Haryana’s most-wanted gangsters.
Lakhwinder Singh alias Lakha, linked to many high-profile criminal networks, specifically the Lawrence Bishnoi syndicate, fled to the United States in 2022 through illegal routes.
“Lakhwinder Singh alias Lakha had been operating from the USA since 2022 under the directions of Anmol Bishnoi and was actively involved in around a dozen cases of extortion and firing incidents related to extortion in Haryana and Punjab,” said a spokesperson of the Haryana Police on Lakhwinder’s arrest in the US.
He said Lakha faces more than 13 FIRs registered across five districts in Haryana and Punjab, including Sonipat, Rohtak, Yamunanagar, Kaithal, and Ambala. The charges against him include attempted murder, extortion, illegal possession of arms, firing incidents, and criminal intimidation.
A close associate of Anmol Bishnoi, brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, 30-year-old Lakha belongs to Titram village in Haryana’s Kaithal district.
A Look Out Circular was issued against him in 2023, followed by a Red Corner Notice through Interpol in 2024. Upon arrival, the Ambala unit of the Haryana Special Task Force arrested him at the airport. Police officials described this as the “first-ever deportation from the US in a transnational gang case”.
The Haryana Police have hailed his deportation as “prize catch” in an ongoing crackdown on organised crime.
The Haryana DGP O.P. Singh said on social media on Sunday: “Major success of STF against organised crime. Another coward, fugitive, and traitor dragged back from #America by #HaryanaPolice. Wanted in extortion and firing cases across multiple states.”
Singh also shared a video of Haryana STF SP Vikrant Bhushan from his X handle in which Bhushan claimed that this arrest is the result of seamless collaboration between the Haryana STF, the FBI, and other central agencies. “We had issued a lookout circular against him earlier this year, which facilitated his detention in the US,” said Bhushan in the video.
Contacted by ThePrint on Monday, Bhushan said Lakha was deported from the United States on 25 October 2025, following his arrest by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Lakha was produced by the STF in an Ambala court Sunday, where he was remanded to eight days of police custody.
