New Delhi: United States Vice President J.D. Vance, who is currently visiting India, has condemned the terrorist attack on tourists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, calling it “devastating”.
Two groups of six terrorists opened fire on the tourists visiting a valley in Pahalgam, killing at least 26 people. Home Minister Amit Shah is now in Srinagar for a review meet.
“Usha and I extend our condolences to the victims of the devastating terrorist attack in Pahalgam, India. Over the past few days, we have been overcome with the beauty of this country and its people. Our thoughts and prayers are with them as they mourn this horrific attack,” vANCE wrote in an X post.
The Israeli ambassador to India has also voiced support for the security forces in their struggle against terror.
“Sad and appalled following the terrorist attack in J&K, which took the lives of innocent civilians. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families, and our support is for the security forces in their struggle against terror,” Israeli Ambassador to India Reuven Azar said in an X post, responding to an Amit Shah post, giving updates on the attack.
Israel stands united with India in the fight against terror, Foreign Affairs Minister of Israel Gideon Sa’ar said, taking to X. “Deeply saddened by the heinous terror attack on tourists in #Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families,” he also wrote.
Other countries have also come out, showing support and giving their condolences to the bereaved families.
Extending his condolences to President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the tragic consequences of the Pahalgam attack, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that he hoped the perpetrators would face “a deserved punishment”.
Calling the affected tourists “civilians—citizens of various countries”, Putin said, “This brutal crime has no justification whatsoever. We expect that its organisers and perpetrators will face a deserved punishment. I would like to reiterate our commitment to further increasing cooperation with Indian partners in fighting terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.”
He also conveyed “sincere sympathy and support” for the families of the victims and wished for a “speedy recovery of all injured”.
Taking to X, Singapore High Commissioner H.C. Wong wrote, “Shocked to hear of the reprehensible attack on innocent tourists in #Pahalgam J&K. Our thoughts are with the family of the injured and deceased.”
Argentinian Ambassador to India Mariano Caucino has also voiced his country’s rejection of all forms of terrorism. “We convey our condolences to the victims of this abominable terrorist act. Argentina stands with India in rejecting all forms of terrorism, extremism, and bigotry. Always with Life and against Terror,” Caucino posted on X.
Among the six terrorists, there were two local Kashmiris who had received training in Pakistan, according to sources in the security establishment.
