Chandigarh, Jul 30 (PTI) Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Thursday appealed to school students to adopt at least one plant and take responsibility for its regular care.
He said that students should give a name to their adopted plant, maintain its growth record and renew their commitment towards its protection on occasions such as birthdays and other special days.
If today’s youth takes the responsibility of nurturing even one plant throughout their life, the dream of a greener Haryana and environmental conservation will automatically become a reality, Saini said.
He emphasised that plantation is not a one-day activity but a lifelong responsibility and a value system towards future generations.
Saini was addressing the 77th state-level Van Mahotsav function held at the Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyaya University of Health Sciences campus at Kutail in Karnal.
While the state-level event was held in Karnal, the district-level Van Mahotsav events were organised across Haryana on Thursday with enthusiastic public participation, as ministers led plantation drives at district-level programmes held across the state.
Addressing a state-level event at Kutail in Karnal, Chief Minister Saini said that plantation is not merely a means of environmental conservation but a commitment towards ensuring a safe and sustainable future for the coming generations.
The state government is making continuous efforts to turn the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign into a mass movement and further enhance the green cover of Haryana, Saini said.
The chief minister planted saplings along with 800 school students under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign.
Highlighting the spiritual connection between nature and Indian traditions, CM Saini said that the holy month of ‘Sawan’ gives us an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment towards both devotion and environmental conservation.
He appealed to every citizen to take a pledge of ‘Ek Lota Jal Bhagwan Shiv Ke Naam, Ek Paudha Aane Wali Peedhi Ke Naam’, stressing that planting and nurturing trees is a responsibility towards future generations.” Lord Shiva’s entire form is connected with nature, and every aspect of his existence conveys the message of environmental protection, he said.
