‘Use of data for decision-making’ is theme for this year’s ‘Statistics Day’

New Delhi: On the occasion of ‘Statistics Day’, the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation organised an event at the Manekshaw Centre, Delhi Cantt.

The Chief Guest of the event, Dr. Arvind Panagariya, Chairman of the 16th Finance Commission, delivered a speech on the role of Prof. P.C. Mahalanobis in developing the Indian Statistical System.

He emphasised the importance of data-driven policy making for India’s growth.

The government of India established ‘Statistics Day’ in 2007. It is celebrated every year on June 29. The day is dedicated to creating awareness about the role of statistics in the economic planning and policy formation for the development of the nation.

This day was first initiated by the Indian Statistical Commission in 1980.

The theme for this year’s Statistics Day is ‘Use of data for decision-making’.
