Unnao (UP), May 7 (PTI) Two men drowned while bathing in the Ganga river at Chandan Ghat here, police said on Thursday.
Ashish, Ajit, Mayank, Jeetu and Vimal, residents of Ata Banthar village, had gone to bathe in the river at Chandan Ghat while returning from Kanpur on Wednesday.
During bathing, Ashish (20) and Jeetu (22) ventured into deep waters and were swept away by the strong current.
Boatmen and residents launched a rescue operation and managed to pull out Ajit, Mayank and Vimal safely, but Ashish and Jeetu drowned, they said.
Police, with the help of divers, recovered the bodies of the two around 10 pm, they said. PTI COR ABN DV DV
