New Delhi: Gautam Buddha Nagar Police arrested Uttar Pradesh’s scrap gangster Ravi Nagar alias Ravi Kana and his girlfriend Kajal Jha from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport Friday following their deportation from Bangkok, Thailand.
Kana, who hails from Dadupur village of Gautam Buddha Nagar, and Jha, a resident of Delhi’s New Friends Colony, carried a reward of Rs 50,000 on their arrest. According to media reports, they fled from Delhi to Thailand on 31 December last year following which a lookout circular was issued against them.
According to reports, Kana had left India to evade arrest after an FIR was registered against him under the stringent Uttar Pradesh Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act at the Beta 2 police station in Greater Noida on 2 January this year.
Both Kana and Jha have been accused of various criminal activities, including gang-related offences, and were evading law enforcement for some time. Their deportation from Thailand to Delhi was facilitated through coordination with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and international agencies, such as Interpol.
In a press statement, Noida Police said that the arrest was made possible under the campaign targeting wanted criminals and rewarded gangsters. Friday’s operation was carried out by the Knowledge Park police station and a SWAT team.
“The accused formed their gang and companies with the money earned illegally by doing illegal rebar and scrap work. So far, assets worth approximately Rs 250 crore of the accused have been attached, which will be presented before the court in time,” said the police statement.
Kana, who has a history of criminal involvement, is also an accused in an alleged gangrape case lodged at the Noida Sector 39 police station on 28 December, 2023. Moreover, he also has cases against him under IPC sections 386 (extortion), 120B (criminal conspiracy), 406 (criminal breach of trust), Section 420 (cheating), 147 (rioting), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), among others.
Meanwhile, Jha has also been implicated in various criminal cases, including offences under the Uttar Pradesh Gangster Act and Prevention of Anti-Social Activities Act.
Jha, too, has cases against her under IPC sections 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) 342 (wrongful confinement), 385 (extortion), 500 (defamation), 386 (fear of death or grievous hurt), and 506 (criminal intimidation), among others.
