Bhadohi, Aug 11 (PTI) A sanitation worker was on Tuesday electrocuted to death and his colleague sustained minor burn injuries when an electric wire came in contact with an iron ladder while they were repairing a ceiling fan at their rented accommodation here, police said.

The deceased was identified as Avadhesh Yadav (42), a resident of Faridpur village in Ghazipur district.

He and his colleague Ranjit Yadav (45) are government sanitation workers posted in Mahathua village under the Aurai block and live together in a rented room, police said.

Inspector Rajesh Kumar Singh said the two workers had been assigned sanitation duties at Aurai crossing during the month of Shravan.

According to police, the two brought an iron ladder to repair a faulty ceiling fan in their room. Avadhesh climbed the ladder and was working on the fan while Ranjit stood below holding it.

Suddenly, an electric wire came into contact with the iron ladder, causing Avadhesh to get stuck to it and die on the spot, the police said.

Ranjit received an electric shock and fell from the ladder, sustaining minor burn injuries. His condition is stated to be stable, police said.

The deceased’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination, Singh said, adding that the district administration and Avadhesh’s family have been informed about the incident. PTI COR ABN NB NB
