New Delhi: The Union Minister of Coal and Mines, G. Kishan Reddy, has inaugurated the Vriksharopan Abhiyan 2024 in Dhanbad. This is a part of the visionary campaign of ‘Ek PedMaa Ke Naam’ by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This event was held simultaneously in about 300 locations of 47 districts in 11 coal/lignite-bearing states, a PIB press release stated.

The Vriksharopan Abhiyan 2024 is a significant step towards achieving the environmental goals of the coal industry. In the last five years, Coal/Lignite PSUs have planted a total of 24 million saplings on a land of 10,942 hectares to make the environment green.

The PSUs are committed to planting a cover of 15,350 hectares of green cover under the coalfields in the next five years. The target for the current fiscal year is 2,600 hectares. The PSUs are using innovative techniques such as Miyawaki method, seed balls, and drone technology to enhance the efficiency of their reforestation efforts.
