Union Minister Jitendra Singh Calls for AI Adoption in Governance

New Delhi: In a bid to enhance efficiency and productivity, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh urged government officials to embrace Artificial Intelligence (AI) in their daily work. Speaking at a special AI session organized for the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) staff, Dr. Singh emphasized the transformative potential of AI in revolutionizing governance, a PIB press release stated.

The session, held at South Block, saw participation from officials of all levels, including Section Officers, the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, and the Union Minister himself.

Dr. Singh, who holds multiple portfolios including Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, highlighted how AI can automate routine tasks, allowing officials to concentrate on more strategic aspects of governance. He stressed the potential of AI to improve sectors like healthcare, agriculture, and public service delivery, making government departments more efficient and citizen-centric.

Dr. Singh commended Mission Karmayogi for its focus on collaborative and inclusive learning, stating that it goes beyond enhancing individual skills to foster a collective learning environment. While advocating for AI adoption, the Minister stressed the importance of responsible deployment, emphasizing data privacy and security. He called for robust measures to safeguard AI systems from cyber threats and unauthorized access. Additionally, he highlighted the ethical considerations surrounding AI, urging for fairness, transparency, and the avoidance of biases in decision-making.

The session also saw discussions on AI’s role in India’s national infrastructure, security, and economic growth. Participants explored how AI can bolster India’s digital backbone, improve public service delivery, and support sustainable growth. The development of India’s first practical AI data bank was also announced, aiming to accelerate technological growth over the next decade. The event concluded with a vision for India in 2035 and beyond, emphasizing citizen empowerment through AI and the creation of an inclusive AI ecosystem.
