Ghaziabad (UP), Apr 21 (PTI) Two minors were killed and two others critically injured after a speeding taxi rammed into a scooter carrying four boys on Pusta Road here, police said on Tuesday.

Ten-year-old Shakib, a resident of Kanawani village, died instantly in the accident which occurred late Monday near Kanawani and thirteen-year-old Satyam succumbed to injuries during treatment at a Delhi hospital, police said.

They added that 14-year-old Ansh of Vasundhara Sector-2A and 11-year-old Piyush alias Golu from Kanawani are in critical condition.

According to police, Ansh was dropping his three friends off at home after they had visited his residence. All four studied at the same school. They were not wearing helmets at the time of the accident, police said.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Indirapuram, Abhishek Srivastava, said police arrested the taxi driver, identified as Sahil, a resident of Ikram Nagar Colony in Loni, and seized the vehicle.

The accused fled the hospital after the incident but was later traced using CCTV footage and apprehended, police said.

The victims hailed from different districts of Bihar but were living with their families in Kanawani.

Shakib was from Saharsa, Satyam from Muzaffarpur, Ansh from Supaul, and Piyush was a local.

Despite some families recently shifting to Vasundhara, the four remained close friends.

After a postmortem on Tuesday, police handed the bodies over to the families.

Meanwhile, residents raised concerns over traffic enforcement, questioning how four minors riding on a single scooter were not stopped at checkpoints. PTI COR KIS ASD ASD
