Mathura (UP), Apr 3 (PTI) Police arrested two individuals following an encounter here in connection with the firing at a local BJP leader’s residence last month, a police official said on Friday.

Both men were among the eight people accused in the case, they said.

Superintendent of Police (Rural) Suresh Chandra Rawat on Friday said that some people open fire at the home of Danbihari alias ‘Dano’, a local BJP leader of Barsana region, late on March 13 night while he was talking to some people outside his house. The miscreants fled the scene after firing indiscriminately.

According to the complaint lodged in the case, some villagers arrived at the dhaba of Dano’s nephew to drink. When they were stopped from doing so and told to leave the area, a heated argument occurred.

Later that night they went to Dano’s house to intimidate his family and opened fire and made an immediate escape.

Last night (Thursday), acting on a tip-off that two of the youths involved — Jitendra (alias ‘Jeetu’) and Rajbir — were passing through the Bharna Khurd Minor area on a motorcycle.

Upon spotting the suspects, police cordoned off the area. However, near the canal connecting Sahar to Kamai village, the suspects allegedly opened fire on the police personnel, following which police fired in self-defence.

Jeetu sustained a gunshot wound on his left leg and was injured in the encounter. Seeing him, Rajbir, too, surrendered to the police.

Police are currently interrogating both the arrested individuals. The injured Jeetu has been admitted to a hospital for medical treatment.

Police have recovered one motorcycle, two country-made pistols, and ammunition from their possession. Police have also launched a search operation to arrest the remaining accused involved in the case. PTI COR NAV SKY SKY
