New Tehri, Apr 28 (PTI) Two travellers from Delhi sustained injuries after their car fell into a 350-metre deep gorge in the Totaghati area of Uttarakhand’s Tehri on Tuesday, police said.
According to the police, authorities launched a rescue and relief operation near Mahadev Chatti on the Rishikesh-Badrinath National Highway immediately after receiving information about the accident.
The victims, Anish (22) and Suhani (20), were rescued from the gorge and rushed to a nearby hospital. Suhani’s condition remains critical, and doctors referred her to AIIMS Rishikesh, they said.
The accident occurred while the duo was returning to Delhi from Kedarnath. The vehicle was completely mangled and landed near the Ganga river at the bottom of the cliff.
Tehri District Magistrate Nitika Khandelwal said fatigue appears to be the primary cause of the accident as the passengers reportedly began their journey from Kedarnath around 1 am.
Khandelwal added that the administration will coordinate with Chamoli and Rudraprayag administration to ensure travellers do not begin journeys between 10 pm and 4 am to prevent such mishaps. PTI COR DPT AKY AKY APL APL
