Latur, Jul 22 (PTI) Two men wanted in a 2008 robbery case registered in Maharashtra’s Latur district have been arrested from Karnataka after being on the run for nearly 18 years, police said on Wednesday.
Shivaji Chander Pawar and Vasant Chander Pawar, both residents of Beeri Tanda in Bidar district of Karnataka, were arrested following a tip-off and sustained surveillance, said an official.
As per the complainant, he and his sister were travelling on a motorcycle from Nilanga to Halgara on October 29, 2008, when the accused allegedly blocked the road near Hungarga Pati by placing stones across it, and robbed them of gold ornaments, a mobile phone and other valuables collectively worth Rs 9,300 before fleeing.
A case was registered at Aurad police station, but the accused remained untraceable.
During a recent district-wide campaign to nab absconding accused, a team of Aurad police team received a tip-off about the whereabouts of the two men and arrested them from Bidar district.
Two other accused in the case, Balaji Chavan and Maruti Pawar, are still absconding, police said. PTI COR KRK
