Chaibasa, Apr 2 (PTI) A full-grown tusker was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district on Thursday, a police officer said.

Villagers on Thursday morning informed the forest department about the carcass of the tusker.

Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Jagannathpur) Raphael Murmu said the pachyderm was suspected to have died on Wednesday night.

A team of forest department officials, along with a veterinary doctor, reached the spot to conduct a post-mortem to ascertain the exact cause of death, Murmu said.

Meanwhile, villagers said a herd of elephants has been moving around the sub-division, creating panic among the residents. PTI COR BS RG
