Chennai, Oct 2 (PTI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay, DMK president M K Stalin and AIADMK chief Edappadi K Palaniswami on Friday paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary, urging the people to uphold his foundational ideals of non-violence, religious harmony, and truth.

In a post on ‘X’, CM Vijay stated that Gandhi secured India’s freedom using the great weapon of non-violence.

Highlighting Gandhi’s guiding principles of simplicity, honesty, humanity, equality, and social harmony, Vijay called upon people to fulfill the leader’s dreams by building a society rooted in peace and brotherhood, and by protecting the nation’s unity and integrity.

Former Chief Minister Stalin underscored the importance of secularism in his Gandhi Jayanti message.

Taking to ‘X’, he urged the public to study Gandhi’s life and learn from his teachings.

Stalin gave a call to “protect the India that cherishes religious harmony.”

AIADMK chief Palaniswami commemorated Gandhi as the embodiment of virtue who shook a global empire with the single weapon of non-violence.

He noted in his ‘X’ post that Gandhi breathed the ideals of equality, simplicity, and truth throughout his life, acting as the voice of the oppressed and the soul of rural India.

Palaniswami pledged to steadfastly follow Gandhi’s path of truth and moral virtue.

Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869, in Porbandar and was assassinated on January 30, 1948, in Delhi. PTI JR KH

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
