Kolkata, Apr 25 (PTI) West Bengal minister and the Trinamool Congress’ Tollygunge Assembly seat candidate Aroop Biswas has reported total assets worth around Rs 2.09 crore in his poll affidavit, a marked increase from the Rs 1.5 crore he declared five years ago.

According to the affidavit he filed along with his nomination papers, the Trinamool Congress heavyweight has movable assets worth Rs 1.83 crore.

He holds Rs 1.51 lakh in cash and maintains six bank accounts with deposits totalling Rs 1.64 crore.

The poll affidavit shows that Biswas’s investments include Rs 33.49 lakh in mutual funds and equity shares, along with Rs 32 lakh in provident fund savings. He has also invested in three insurance policies.

Notably, the minister has declared that he does not own any vehicle and has no outstanding loans or liabilities from any individual or financial institution.

He owns 125 grams of gold jewellery valued at over Rs 14 lakh, according to the minister’s poll declaration.

In terms of immovable assets, Biswas owns a 1,500 square feet house in New Alipore’s Durgapur Colony, with an estimated market value of Rs 25 lakh.

He has no agricultural or non-agricultural land, nor any ancestral property.

The affidavit further states that Biswas has no criminal cases registered against him.

An analysis of his poll affidavits over the years shows a steady rise in assets from Rs 16.44 lakh in 2006 to Rs 75.32 lakh in 2011, Rs 1.15 crore in 2021, and currently around Rs 2.09 crore.
