Kanpur (UP), Apr 16 (PTI) Three persons, including a farmer and his nephew, were killed and a 10-year-old girl was critically injured after the motorcycle they were riding crashed into a road divider in Shivrajpur here on Thursday, police said.

The victims were returning home from a ‘Tilak’ ceremony (a ritual held before marriage) when the bike lost control and hit a divider near the Dubiyana underpass, Bilhaur’s Assistant Commissioner of Police Manjay Singh said.

Eyewitnesses told the police that the impact of the collision was so severe that all four were thrown off the bike.

The eyewitnesses further said that they suspect the driver may have dozed off, leading to the accident.

A highway ambulance rushed them to a nearby Community Health Centre, where doctors declared three of them dead.

The deceased have been identified as Vinod Nishad (45), a farmer, his nephew Piyush (11), and neighbour Ramnarayan Nishad (52).

Vinod’s daughter Diksha (10) sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment at Lala Lajpat Rai (LLR) Hospital.

The ACP said that the bodies have been sent for a post-mortem, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.

Vinod is survived by his wife Manju and four daughters, while Ramnarayan is survived by his wife, a son, and five daughters. PTI COR ABN KSI HIG
