Ranchi, Jul 29 (PTI) Thousands of students staged a protest march here on Wednesday against alleged irregularities in the results of JPSC and JSSC examinations.
The students, who gathered from different parts of Jharkhand under the banner of the ‘Joint Students Front’ at the Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium, marched to Albert Ekka Chowk, where they raised slogans against the JMM-led alliance government.
The protesters carried placards with slogans such as ‘Cancel 14th JPSC PT Exam’, ‘Jhol-Jhal Public Service Commission (JPSC)’, ‘CBI investigation should be conducted into JPSC and JSSC’ and ‘Hemant Soren Resign’.
A student from Ranchi, Asif Mustafa, said, “We gathered here to raise our concerns over irregularities being committed in various recruitment examinations by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC). Rampant corruption is prevailing in both agencies. Meritorious candidates are not getting opportunities.” Mustafa said he appeared for the 14th JPSC Combined Civil Services Preliminary Examination held on April 19.
Another student, Ravi Kumar from Hazaribag district, alleged widespread corruption, particularly in the education sector.
He alleged, “There is no transparency in the JPSC 14th Preliminary Test exam results. The commission did not issue category-wise cut-off marks before announcing the results. They declared the results at midnight. Just as we forced the central government to bow before our demands, a similar scene will be witnessed in Jharkhand.” Khushi Kumari from Dhanbad district said the state government should take cognisance of alleged irregularities in the state civil services examination.
“There is no fair mechanism in conducting examinations in the JPSC. I wrote the 14th JPSC PT exam. I am living here and preparing for the Main exam. Until our demands and concerns are addressed by the state government, we will continue to protest. We are not going to shut our mouths,” she said.
Another student claimed that she had appeared for the JSSC PGT-2023 examination and scored 299 marks out of 300 but was not selected.
The agitating students and youths said that just like the movement at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, a similar protest will happen in Ranchi if the state government does not pay heed to these issues. PTI RPS RPS MNB
