Lal Bahadur Shastri served as the second Prime Minister of India for a tenure of 18 months. Beginning in 1964, through these months he steered the country through economic and security crises. He championed initiatives like the White Revolution, placing strong emphasis on self-reliance as necessary for economic growth.
Shastri inspired national unity with the slogan “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan”.
Hours after signing the Tashkent Declaration to end the Indo-Pakistan war mediated by the Soviet Premier Alexei Kosygin, Lal Bahadur Shastri Died in Dacha in Tashkent, on 11 January 1966.
