New Delhi: ThePrint is now an associate member of the News Broadcasters and Digital Association (NBDA), formerly known as News Broadcasters Association (NBA). The independent self-regulatory body of news and current affairs broadcasters granted Printline Media Private Ltd associate membership of NBDA, with effect from 25 March, 2025.

Established in July 2007, NBA was renamed NBDA in August 2021 to reflect the inclusion of digital news publishers. Funded entirely by its members, NBDA counts 27 news and current affairs broadcasters (comprising 125 news and current affairs channels) as its members.

NBDA describes its mission statement thus: “To serve as the eyes and ears of the private news, current affairs and digital broadcasters, to lobby on its behalf and to act as a central point of joint action on matters of interest.”

The self-regulatory body deals with ethical, operational, technical and legal issues affecting TV and digital news broadcasters.

Besides promoting, protecting and securing the interests including the right of freedom of speech and expression of news broadcasters and digital news outlets, NBDA also aims to promote awareness about latest developments in the media industry and to disseminate knowledge amongst its members and the general public regarding such developments.

The NBDA has a number of sub-committees, namely editorial, legal, sales, distribution, audience measurement and technology. It also has a code of ethics and broadcasting standards for all its members and associate members and adjudicates upon complaints concerning violation of its code of conduct by members or associate members of NBDA.

Rajat Sharma, chairman of Independent News Services Pvt. Ltd, currently serves as president of NBDA, while M.V. Shreyams Kumar, managing director of Mathrubhumi Printing & Publishing Co. Ltd, is the vice president, and Anuradha Prasad Shukla, chairperson cum managing director of News24 Broadcast India Ltd, is the honorary treasurer.

ThePrint—headquartered in New Delhi—is a news, analysis, opinion, and knowledge venture, launched in August 2017 by Editor Shekhar Gupta. Politics, policy, governance, social and cultural change are the four pillars of ThePrint.
