Panaji, Mar 12 (PTI) Temporary floating jetties will be made at six locations in Goa to strengthen safety measures for visitors, state tourism minister Rohan Khaunte said in the assembly on Thursday.
The project is part of the new tender issued for a lifeguarding agency, he said in the House while responding to a point raised during Zero Hour by Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas.
“The initiative of floating jetties aims to strengthen safety measures for visitors. These floating stations will enable the quick launch of jet skis during rescue operations so that lifeguards can reach victims or persons in distress in a shorter time. The provision was made to enhance the efficiency of lifeguards during emergencies,” he said.
Khaunte informed the House that the the proposal has been withdrawn at two locations based on views and comments received.
“For the remaining locations, letters have been addressed to the respective panchayats, fishing communities, and coastal MLAs seeking their suggestions before proceeding further,” Khaunte said. PTI RPS BNM
