New Delhi, Apr 16 (PTI) TDP MP Byreddy Shabari on Thursday extended support to the women’s quota bills, saying the nation is now talking about women-led development and the proposed legislation will give them an opportunity to lead the country in the rightful way.

Participating in the discussion on the three bills related to women’s quota and delimitation process in the Lok Sabha, the MP also highlighted the various steps taken by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in the interest of women empowerment, including reservation in government jobs.

“Gone are the days when our roles were restricted only to wife or daughter or mother. Gone are the days when the nation was talking about women’s development, but here come the days when the nation is talking about women-led development, and the nation is giving us a chance to compete with the world, and also giving us a chance to lead the nation in a rightful way,” the MP from the TDP, which is part of the NDA government at the Centre, said.

Union Ministers Arjun Ram Meghwal and Amit Shah on Thursday introduced the three bills in the Lok Sabha to amend the women’s quota law and set up a delimitation commission amid protests by the opposition, which termed the proposed legislations anti-constitutional.

Another NDA partner, Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)], extended support to the bills, and asserted that the Modi government is committed to “nari shakti”. JDU MP Dileshwar Kamait said the role of women in country’s development will have to be expanded to realise the goal of Viksit Bharat by 2047. PTI JD NKD PRK
