New Delhi: Noida police Sunday arrested a jawan of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and his wife on charges of assaulting a minor girl at their accommodation inside the force’s camp in Greater Noida.
The 10-year-old girl is on ventilator support at Max Hospital in Noida, battling injuries to her chest, head and other body parts.
The accused jawan has been deployed with CRPF’s 235th battalion, a unit under the force’s specialised VIP security wing, since January 2024. CRPF said in a statement Monday that the jawan worked as a “first aider” at the force’s Noida hospital.
He has been suspended and an inquiry has begun, the force said.
The case was registered a day after a CRPF Assistant Commandant-level officer wrote to the police and the district Child Welfare Committee, seeking an FIR Saturday. The officer also sought charges for child labour, trafficking and grievous abuse of minor against the accused. But the FIR was only registered under Section 110 (attempt to commit culpable homicide) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The FIR says that the jawan kept the 10-year-old girl at his accommodation in the Greater Noida camp without approval from the authorities and assaulted the girl on the night of 14 and 15 January.
“Constable/GD Tarik Anwar and his wife Rimpa Khatun assaulted the girl, resulting in serious injury to her. There were injuries on her head, chest and other parts of the body. As a result, she was initially admitted to Sarvodaya Hospital, Bisrakh. Presently, she is on a ventilator in Sector-128, Max Hospital,” the complaint by the officer read.
“This incident was found to have happened on the intervening night of 14/01/2026 and 15/01/2026. (The jawan) did not give a satisfactory reply to the department officials. The girl was not given first-aid treatment at the camp hospital, nor was any information provided in this regard,” the complainant alleged, adding that the couple was responsible for the girl’s “unconscious/dying state”.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Noida) Shakti Mohan Avasthy said the girl was brought by the accused to help with household chores and childcare.
“The accused began to harass and physically abuse the victim over trivial matters. On the night of January 14-15, they assaulted the victim, as a result of which she is currently receiving treatment in hospital. On 18 January, the Ecotech-3 police station took immediate action and arrested the accused, Tarik Anwar and his wife Rimpa Khatun,” the DCP said.
‘Took her from hospital against medical advice’
According to the FIR, the girl was initially admitted to Sarvodaya Hospital with multiple injuries and scars over her body. Multiple laboratory tests suggested prolonged illness and injuries on multiple organs.
But she was soon discharged from the hospital by the couple, who cited financial burdens, the FIR says.
The medical officer there said in the discharge summary that the girl was on ventilator support and needed to be shifted to the ICU.
In the manually written discharge summary from Sarvodaya Hospital, accessed by ThePrint, the doctors said the girl was brought to the hospital’s emergency department in a semi-conscious state. The CRPF jawan and his wife claimed she had fallen in the washroom at night.
“On examination, the child has multiple injuries on the neck, head, hands, and legs,” the discharge summary said.
“On examination, the child has eye ecchymosis (swelling around the eye due to trauma to the face or head) and generalised oedema (swelling of tissues). Multiple scars are present on the face, neck, and body. Both old/new injuries (sic),” it read.
According to the complaint, the doctors said the girl had multiple rib fractures, torn nails and haemoglobin levels of 1.9, suggestive of “prolonged neglect and deprivation”. The CRPF assistant commandant, in his complaint Saturday, also raised concerns that Uttar Pradesh Police had not registered an FIR in the case despite evidence from the hospital.
Inquiry on, says CRPF
A CRPF spokesperson said Monday the jawan has been suspended and an inquiry will be conducted to identify the gaps leading to the incident.
“He resided in CRPF Noida camp with his family and had a young girl, reported to be his wife’s relative, staying with the family… Considering the gravity of the incident the said constable was placed under suspension and inquiry has been initiated as per procedure,” the official statement read.
It added, “CRPF will give every assistance to police for the investigation and support the medical treatment to the young girl fully.”
CRPF sources told ThePrint that the force’s Director General Gyananendra Pratap Singh spoke to Noida Police officials and said they will bear all medical expenses of the minor.
