Shimla, Mar 20 (PTI) Himachal Pradesh Directorate of School Education on Friday issued a show cause notice to the principal of Government Senior Secondary School in Dhalli here for alleged dereliction of duty and non-compliance with orders.

According to officials of the Directorate, the electricity connection of the Government Primary School in Dhalli, a cluster school under the said institution, was disconnected on January 27, 2026, due to non-payment of bills.

Despite the availability of approximately Rs 15 lakh in the school’s account and a clear government instruction authorising principals of cluster schools to utilise unspent funds for essential facilities, necessary action was not taken to restore electricity.

The government had issued an instruction on December 15, 2025, permitting the use of accumulated funds to ensure basic amenities in schools under cluster jurisdiction. However, the failure to act in this regard resulted in deprivation of basic facilities for students over a considerable period, the officials said.

Taking serious note of the matter, the Directorate has directed the principal concerned to explain why disciplinary action should not be initiated against him for negligence and non-compliance with official directives.

The principal has also been directed to appear in person in the Directorate on March 23, 2026, along with his reply. PTI COR RUK RUK
