Shimla, Apr 25 (PTI) Police have arrested an alleged drug peddler and seized over 5 kilograms of charas (cannabis), making it one of the largest recoveries of contraband in the state this year, police said on Saturday.
The accused has been identified as Pankaj Kumar (30), a resident of Upper Dadh village in Palampur tehsil of Kangra district.
According to police, they received a tip-off on Friday that a man, travelling in a Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus heading towards Baga Sarahan, was carrying a large contraband of cannabis.
Following this, a police team stopped the bus near Sainj on National Highway 05.
During the check, police recovered the contraband, which he had kept in his bag, and he was immediately arrested. They seized approximately 5.652 kg of charas (cannabis) from the accused.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shimla, Gaurav Singh, said a case has been registered under sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act 1985. Further investigation is underway. PTI COR HIG HIG
