Kochi, Oct 2 (PTI) Chief Minister V D Satheesan on Friday called for a comprehensive transformation of Keralam, stressing the need to make better use of existing infrastructure and create more opportunities for the youth.

Delivering the 18th K P Hormis Memorial Lecture, hosted by Federal Bank here, he said the state needed to transform key sectors such as education, healthcare, tourism, sports and public welfare to meet changing needs.

Speaking on the theme “Reimagining Kerala”, Satheesan said Keralam already had infrastructure and social amenities comparable to those in several Western countries, but these resources needed to be utilised more efficiently.

He stressed the need to turn the state’s geographical and demographic challenges into opportunities for growth, while ensuring the welfare of senior citizens and enhancing women’s safety.

As part of this vision, Satheesan announced plans to organise ‘Festival Kerala’, initially in different parts of India and subsequently at international locations.

The initiative would showcase the state’s heritage, art, culture and traditions while providing a platform to highlight its entrepreneurs, investment opportunities, tourism potential and talent to audiences in India and abroad, he said.

The CM welcomed Federal Bank’s contribution to the state’s development and called for its continued participation in efforts to reimagine Keralam and drive transformation across sectors.

Federal Bank Chairman Elias George welcomed the gathering, while Managing Director and CEO K V S Manian delivered the vote of thanks.

The K P Hormis Memorial Lecture is organised in memory of Federal Bank founder K P Hormis and provides a platform for distinguished leaders and eminent personalities to share their perspectives on contemporary issues. PTI TBA SSK

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
