Mumbai: Actor Saif Ali Khan, who underwent multiple surgeries to treat stab wounds from an attack in his home, is stable, his team said.

“Saif Ali Khan has come out of surgery and is out of danger. He is currently in recovery and the doctors are monitoring his progress. All family members are safe and the police are investigating the incident,” the statement read.

The team thanked the Lilavati Hospital’s operating team, Saif’s fans and well-wishers for standing by the actor during this time.

Saif was attacked by a burglar in his 12th floor Bandra apartment around 2 am on Thursday morning, which left the actor with six stab wounds. He was rushed to the hospital around 3.30 am. A team led by a neurosurgeon operated on him.

According to the police, the intruder snuck into the Satguru Sharan apartment when the actor was sleeping, but was soon confronted by a female member of the staff at the house. The unarmed actor intervened to diffuse the situation but the burglar stabbed him before fleeing the flat.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Dixit Gedam said a probe was underway but refused to divulge any further details. A forensic team from the Mumbai Police was seen leaving Saif’s apartment in the afternoon, after collecting fingerprints.

Maharashtra’s opposition parties, film actors and the industry have condemned the attack, some questioning Mumbai’s “lawlessness”, while others expressed shock and sympathy.
